In 1983, Bell School PTO President Mary Gately created a scholarship to provide financial support to students in the community. The scholarship funds enrichment activities for students including tutoring, summer camp, music lessons, and more. Over the past 37 years this scholarship fund has supported more than 400 children within the Marblehead community.
Recently, Mary Gately approached the PTO to take over the management of the fund. The PTO was surprised to learn that Mary had been working with guidance counselors for years providing anonymous financial support to students in need. Mary no longer resides in Marblehead, but has continued to push for the children in our community to be given the support they need to thrive. The PTO officially named the fund the Mary Gately Scholarship Fund in honor of the woman who had the foresight and compassion to create a support system for our students.
There is a growing need today to help students at our school. As we move forward with the Mary Gately Scholarship Fund, we ask for your support. One hundred percent of these funds go directly to students in our school community who need assistance. Donations to this scholarship do not go to the PTO, but to a separate fund that is specifically set-up for scholarship.
If you would like to donate to this amazing scholarship, checks can be made to the Mary Gately Scholarship Fund and mailed to the PTO Board at 1 Turner Road. Donations are tax-deductible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We are honored to be given this opportunity to continue to support Marblehead students just as Mary Gately has done for almost 40 years. Thank you!
