PTO Board Shares the Following Statement at the March Meeting
“As many of you know, Superintendent Buckey announced his selection of volunteer parents to join the new Brown School principal search committee at the School Committee meeting last week. Of the parents selected for this committee, none of them were from the Bell Coffin Eveleth community. After hearing this announcement, our PTO board engaged in a conversation with the Superintendent bringing our concern that our parent community would not be represented in this process.
“After hearing our concerns, and in order to allow for maximum parent engagement and involvement and to harness the excitement and experiential knowledge of parents with the youngest students, Dr. Buckey has suggested that our PTO host and moderate the finalist forums. Please stay tuned for more info as we work out the details with the superintendent’s office.”

As a response to our advocacy, Superintendent Buckey has invited parents from our Bell Coffin Eveleth community to take part in the very important process of selecting the next principal for the Lucretia and Joseph Brown Elementary School.
Next steps for parent involvement in the new school principal search:
- The Bell Coffin Eveleth PTO will host and moderate forums for 2 – 3 finalists.
- After the forums, the Bell Coffin Eveleth PTO will coordinate parental feedback and make a recommendation to the Superintendent. Superintendent Buckey has shared that the parent recommendation for the new principal would be equally weighed as the Search Committee principal recommendation.
